Once upon a time, the word ‘Disney’ meant a lot in an animated project. A great storytelling experience was guaranteed and a masterpiece was always possible. But of late, every Disney project feels like every other Disney project. Gradually eroding any excitement that might await each new project.

Ambition is no different and is every bit as forgettable and uninspiring as people are accusing it of being. If there’s anything worth remembering, it has to be the watercolor-esque art style, but not even the one that justifies the film’s existence. Desire lacks depth and is painfully a face value film. It has a Disney protagonist, a Disney antagonist, a Disney-merch mascot, some Disney-music, and yeah, that’s about it.

The question is whether children will enjoy it. After all, that’s what the film is primarily about. And the answer might be ‘yes’, but probably not on a different level than they might enjoy saying Cocomelon or something. There is nothing magical that stands out and nothing that doesn’t impress. This is another Disney showcase of good animation with nothing to adjust for.
