The Package (Season 1) (2017) – Storyline:
Package (TV Series 2017): Yoon Soo Soo moves to France with her college boyfriend – despite her parents’ disapproval. A few years later, her boyfriend reluctantly returns to Korea without Soo-soo. Then to live in France to pursue a PhD, she works as a tour guide. She leads “Luxury Premium Tour Packages: 1 Week in France”. So it always tries its best so that passengers can create good memories together. This show covers one of those trips. The particular group in this series was inconsistent and disturbing despite its small size. The seven tourists included a man who came without his girlfriend, a couple who have been together for 7 years, an elderly couple consisting of a demanding and complaining husband and his accommodating wife, and a man was traveling with a younger woman. The members of the group could not have been more troubled – in particular, San Ma Roo, the lone male traveler. He fights with his girlfriend 3 days before the trip and then leaves her behind at the office while he is still on vacation. He is troubled from the first day when he gets stuck in the customs. To her surprise, during the trip, Su discovers that Ma Ru may just be her destined lover.

‘The Package (Season 1) 2017’: TV Review:
The storytelling is well done, and kept me interested the entire time. At the same time the stories are full of clichés, some predictable and not-so-predictable twists, silly humor, and a lot of things that feel like manipulating the audience’s emotions. Like I said, this drama is big on misunderstandings, so they purposely present certain moments in a way that makes you misunderstand them. After a while the obvious misunderstandings were getting to be fun, just because I loved watching the character’s reactions. Another cool thing was how certain locations were incorporated into the story, so France wasn’t just an arbitrary location, but a big part of each character’s experience.
The soundtrack was also great, even though I don’t have a favorite song, the music definitely added to the atmosphere of the show.
Overall, even with the thoughtful themes of self-discovery, and some moments that moved me to serious tears, this was mostly the feel-good drama I needed. Expect to laugh, cry and take deep breaths, and possibly want to book a trip to France. (I guess the Air France product placement was well spent). I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started looking, but like the characters who signed up for this package vacation, I’m so glad I decided to take the trip.
