Prey (Predator 5 / Skulls) 2022 Movie: The true story of a predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled female warrior, fights to protect her clan against one of the first highly advanced predators to land on Earth.
On the Great Plains in 1719, Naro, a young Comanche woman trained as a healer, dreams of becoming a great hunter like her brother, Tabi. While tracking deer with her dog, Sari, she observes the lights of an alien hunter’s spaceship, which she identifies as Thunderbird, taking it as a sign to prove herself. . In the village, a hunter from their tribe is taken by a mountain lion. Tabi says that Naru can join the search party, but can only provide medical treatment if they find the hunter alive. They retrieve the wounded hunter and leave, though Tabi stays behind to find and kill the big cat. Finding large unusual tracks and a carefully skinned snake, Naru circles back with Paake and finds Taabe. Together, the three set a trap for the mountain lion, but he kills Pake.
Naru encounters the big cat on a tree branch but, after being distracted by the predator’s strange sounds and lights in the distance, falls and hits it on the head. She wakes up in her family home, taken back by Tabi. He later returned to the village with a dead mountain lion, earning him the title of war chief. Convinced of a greater threat than they have ever seen before, Naru sets off with Sari. She comes across a herd of leather bison left to rot on the plains. She is appalled by the senseless slaughter, and prays for their souls. Eventually, she stumbles into a muddy swamp pit, which almost swallows her before she can escape. Naru and Sari are later attacked by a grizzly bear. As they run for their lives, the bear is killed by a hunter, giving Naru time to escape and run into a group of Comanche sent to find him. The hunter ambushes and kills the men in combat, while Naru is caught in a foot trap. The hunter walks away because he no longer sees him as a threat.
Pre 2022 Movie Review:
Predator is probably the most “serious” movie in the series but it might also be the most boring, except for the AVP Abominations (if you consider them part of the franchise). Even the terrible “Predator” has a lot to offer in terms of plot and excitement. I appreciate that the filmmakers took the movie seriously and didn’t make it the silly movie that “The Predators” is, but that doesn’t make it good either. Sorry, I don’t understand why people like it so much. I found it very slow and pointless. Also, the references to Predator 1 and 2 were pretty heavy-handed.
The ‘Predator’ movies are consistently disappointing. Every time they get our hopes up, and every time we finally see the movie, they are dashed. I suspect the series doesn’t know what it is anymore. They definitely don’t feel like horror movies.
