Moonshine (Season 1) (Hindi Dubbed) – Storyline :
A long period of prohibition during the Joseon era proved that the restriction of alcohol was no match for human desire.
Laws against drinking, buying, or making alcohol created various challenges for these residents: Inspector Nam Young from the Office of the Inspector General who left his hometown to gain fame and restore his family status in Hanyang. Kang Roo Seo, a rich but poor woman who makes moonshine to reduce her debt, allowing her to continue buying her mother’s medicine and her brother’s books. And even Crown Prince Le Pio, who was prone to scaling the palace walls in search of a tipple.
The trio have a terrifying encounter that leads to the discovery of a hidden stash of liquor. Revealing this secret will only result in certain death.

Moonshine falls into the same pit that I think many period dramas like it fall into and that is putting too much emphasis on palace politics and the royal family and using it as a crutch or tool to drive the story forward or create suspense. have to do Just like the bad mother-in-law is used in rom-cos to add drama and stakes to the story and romance. And it doesn’t really work. It takes a certain skill to make this work within the story, and must be used with a purpose, otherwise it becomes too slow. And many of these lighter period dramas, like Moonshine, don’t know how to use it. To me, this is a possible lack of courage on the part of the author himself in the story.
The story lacks consistency or focus, especially towards the middle, which improves slightly as we get towards the end, but the story never lets moments linger (and therefore builds is lacking) and often seems so. Too much haste comes in because the characters move along with the story, but not the other way around. Things just need to happen. So the tension in the narrative isn’t really there.
Moonshine is an overall drama with a lot of potential, but with an aimless narrative that hesitates to take risks and break from its genre norms, crown princes, court politics and forbidden love between classes etc. . The story in the dust and therefore the story structure, some of the characters and many of the side plots feel quite flat and lack a bit of focus and depth. The play wanted to do too much, but at the same time too little, for the time it took to tell the story. I can’t say that I was bored watching the drama, but that I was disappointed by the wasted potential of it all. The cast ran the play for me.
