‘Cleve (Season 2) 2024’ Netflix Web Series Review:

This eight-part German comedy-drama begins in 1987. Cleo, an assassin working for East German state security, the Stasi, goes on a mission to West Berlin where she kills her target in a nightclub. The authorities there believe the dead man took an overdose, but the only policeman, Sven, who saw Cleo before his death, believes it was murder and provides a sketch. No one takes him seriously, but a copy of his sketch reaches the East. Here Cleo finds herself caught up in Trump’s accusations. She is imprisoned and remains there until the wall falls two years later. Once freed he is determined to get revenge on all those who betrayed him and determine why they did it. Meanwhile, Swain sees her photo in the recently released Eastern political photo files and decides to arrest her for the 1987 murder.

I really enjoyed this series; It successfully combines drama with humor and is set at an interesting time in German history. The short time between the wall and the reunification of the two Germanys. Humor doesn’t get in the way of drama. Much of this is provided by Cleo’s accidental housemate Thelo, a perma-stoned West German who claims to be from the planet Sirius B, intent on introducing techno music to the East before returning home. Keeps, and at other times quite subtle, like the squeaky shoes Cleo wears to a job. Drama works too. There are many tense moments and even a degree of tragedy. The cast is solid; Especially Jella Haas as Cleo, Dimitri Schad as Sven and Julius Feldmeier as Thelo. Overall I would definitely recommend it.
