Review of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023 Movie):

I want to live in a world where Indiana Jones is a trilogy and stops with The Last Crusade. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has all the same problems that have plagued other summer blockbusters this year. It relies too much on CGI and expects it to look nostalgic. James Mangold is a capable director, but he’s no Spielberg. It’s almost as if he read a guide to making an Indiana Jones movie and missed the mark. The film has no heart that is the Spielberg spark it lacks. The CGI is terrible with most being save for Harrison Ford’s face. The movie is like 90% CGI and can be like animation at times. The characters from the past are clumsily written and thrown away without care. The last 30 minutes. Well… they killed the fridge. (bring back aliens)

Now let’s consider the script. Indiana Jones time travels. It’s about as silly as Indiana Jones meets Alien, but somehow it’s also incredibly dull and boring, with none of the wonder and magic that one expects from the franchise. It is expected. I just watched the movie an hour ago and already I’m struggling to remember some of the scenes, it’s all so unremarkable. There is plenty of predictable fan service, but it only serves to remind viewers of how much better the original films were. To make matters worse, the whole mess drags on for two hours and thirty-four minutes.

In short, we can add Indiana Jones to the growing list of once-great franchises that Disney bought and then completely stomped on. 3/10 — I wasn’t expecting this to be very good, but it was worse than I imagined.
