Atlas isn’t an upgraded flick or anything too modern about it, but it definitely has those traditional set pieces that you enjoy on any holiday. I think they could have made future war weapons more dangerous and deadly than just using ION bombs and fireshots. Sumo’s use of the ring in the MCU seemed more futuristic than the sword he wielded as a robot in a future world. Also, the film lacks some heavy punch lines. Maybe because there was no male protagonist. Men’s equipment was missing. Although Smith added something of his own, it was not enough. The explosions were entertaining and enjoyable. The production design and background score were fine. Atlas’s camerawork doesn’t offer anything new since it’s set in an AI world. We have the same close-ups during battle sequences and overhead views of forests, robots and fighter jets. Those who know Brad Peyton for Journey 2, San Andreas, and Rampage will find what they’re looking for here. He only changed the world, not his thoughts. He might be stuck with them, but it’s enough to get you through two hours of Netflix.
